Making Waves at the Newark Dragon Boat Festival

The International Export Packers team had an unforgettable day taking part in this year’s Newark Dragon Boat Festival, a much-loved event on the local calendar that brings together tradition, teamwork and a fantastic community atmosphere.

Taking to the water, our crew arrived with plenty of enthusiasm (and a few nerves!). Once the drums began to beat, we soon found our rhythm — most of the time! From splash-heavy moments that left us soaked to the friendly rivalry between teams, the experience was a brilliant reminder of the power of teamwork beyond the workplace.

Off the water, the day was just as enjoyable. We spent time cheering on fellow crews, sharing food, and soaking up the lively festival atmosphere that makes the Newark Dragon Boat Festival such a special community event.

While the racing was great fun, the day also carried real meaning for our team. We were proud to paddle in support of two incredible local charities: the Children’s Bereavement Centre and Beaumond House Hospice Care. Thanks to the generosity of colleagues, friends and families, an impressive £845 was raised, helping to support the vital work both organisations do within our community.

We’re also pleased to share that the Children’s Bereavement Centre is now our chosen charity moving forward, and we look forward to continuing to raise awareness and support for the important services they provide.

A special mention goes to Newark’s own Jade Grierson, who joined our crew on the day. Her determination and drive — both in and out of the boxing ring — were truly inspiring and gave the team an extra boost when it mattered most.
